The first book, One for the Money, was adapted as a 2012 film starring Katherine Heigl as Stephanie.Įvanovich admits that Stephanie Plum's character is inspired by her own, in both history and "similar embarrassing experiences". "But truthfully," Evanovich says, "Stephanie has stayed the same more than she's changed." Īs of 2021, Stephanie has appeared in 28 full-length novels, four holiday novellas, and a short story in a compilation of various authors' works. Įvanovich claims the inspiration for Stephanie's character came after watching Midnight Run starring Charles Grodin and Robert De Niro, adding, "If Mickey Spillane wrote Archie and Veronica, Stephanie would be Betty." As the series has progressed, Stephanie has become more stable and responsible, and a better bounty hunter. She is described by the author as "incredibly average and yet heroic if necessary". She is a spunky combination of Nancy Drew and Dirty Harry, and-although a female bounty hunter-is the opposite of Domino Harvey. More than half a century on, the veil is proudly, even defiantly, worn by Harvard undergraduates, not to mention the female half of an audience that filled Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre for a discussion I attended last year between Professor Tariq Ramadan and Shaikh Hamza Yusuf Hanson, the distinguished American convert. In 1956 the historian Albert Hourani, best known for his magisterial History of the Arab Peoples, wrote a short article in the UNESCO Courier predicting that the hijab or veil worn by Muslim women would disappear from ‘advanced’ Arab countries like Egypt, surviving only in ‘backward regions’ such as Yemen and Saudi Arabia where the ‘old order’ persisted. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Though Olga exists in the shadows of others, she pursues life to the fullest and her magnetic presence shines-revealing a woman complex, fascinating, and unforgettable. I fell in love, swiftly consuming that book and then the rest of the series before moving onto The Song of the Lioness (I have since read them more in order many times), and then Protector of the Small. ![]() I started with The Immortals after finding a copy of Wild Magic hidden away in our school library. The Protector of the Small Quartet was actually the third series that I read by Tamora Pierce. As part of the #womensff on twitter, I wanted to talk about some of my favourite female authors, and today I am kicking this off with one of my favourite series and authors of all time (and I would apologise for the length of this post, but even this is barely enough to convey my love for this series). ![]() ![]() ![]() The various incarnations of Jaws 3 all started as comedies (including the legendary Jaws 3 People 0) before it was decided that if they made a joke of everything they would lose the ability to ever make another serious film. What I find amusing is how many films were started as comedies but then went sideways. What is interesting this time out is LeMay includes several films that are considered rip-offs but were in production before or during the production of Jaws.
